10G-SW32HSSM-16QP High Speed Switch Module for the IBM BladeCenter H
The 10G-SW32HSSM-16QP High Speed Switch Module (HSSM) for the IBM BladeCenter H is based on the Myri-10G 32-port Myrinet-protocol XBar32 chip. The 32 ports are used as follows:
In order to accommodate the 16 external ports, this product is a double-height HSSM. It can be installed in module bays 7 and 8, with ports connecting at bay 7; or in module bays 9 and 10, with ports connecting at bay 9.
This HSSM is intended principally for HPC applications using the MX-10G software distribution with either the 10G-PCIE-8B-2I High Speed Expansion Card (HSEC) with one HSSM, or with the 10G-PCIE-8B2-4I double HSEC with two HSSMs.
When used as the first level of switching with external Myri-10G modular switches, the switch network is scalable at full bisection to up to 7168 blades using only one level of external cables.
Key Features:
Specifications:
External network ports (16): 16 Myrinet-protocol QSFP (Quad Small Form factor Pluggable) sockets for QSFP-terminated copper cables (10G-QC-xM) or EOE cables (10G-QP-xM), 10+10 Gbit/s data rate, full-duplex. Each QSFP socket provides XAUI signaling per IEEE 802.3ae, the required electrical power, the standard QSFP management interface, and can be used with QSFP optical-fiber transceivers. (See this Guide to Myri-10G PHYs (pdf).)
Midplane ports (16): 14 Myrinet-protocol XAUI ports to the BladeCenter H blades, and 2 Myrinet-protocol XAUI ports to BladeCenter H bridge modules.
Switch: Myri-10G XBar32 32-port switch with 110ns path-formation latency. Switch ports 0-15 connect to the external ports as labeled. Switch ports 16, 18-28, and 30-31 connect through the BladeCenter H midplane to blades, and switch ports 17 and 29 connect through the BladeCenter H midplane to bridge modules.
Monitoring capabilities: Self-test, product IDs, voltage monitoring, temperature monitoring upstream & downstream in the air flow, port monitoring and control, and XBar32 scan-path functions including port status, packet counts, and error counts. All monitoring information is reported on demand through the external 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet port and the internal 100Base-T Ethernet port. The monitoring functions are similar to those provided in Myri-10G modular switches by the 10G-MONITOR-B monitoring line card, but include additional features required by the BladeCenter H specifications. In addition to the main microcontroller, which runs an embedded Linux, a small internal microcontoller will shut off the power except for the small-microcontroller section on over-temperature or other fault conditions.
Status (green) and Fault (yellow) LEDs: As required by the BladeCenter H specifications.
Power requirements: +12V input power from the midplane. Maximum power used is 20W (1.67A @ 12V) plus up to 1.1W per QSFP socket to power active-cable ends, EOE-cable ends, or QSFP transceivers.
Environmental: Operating: Temperature 0C to 70C up to 7,000 foot altitude. Relative humidity 8% to 80%, non-condensing. Storage: Temperature -40C to 70C. Relative humidity 90% @ 65C.
Applicable Specifications: This HSSM complies with all applicable BladeCenter H specifications, and has successfully passed the Blade.org Compliance Program, which included functional tests, temperature tests, airflow-impedance tests, and tx/rx signal-integrity tests.
Reduction of Hazardous Substances: This product is RoHS-compliant under the server exemption.
